Matter over Wi-Fi

What Matter over Wi-Fi is

Matter is an IP-based standard from the Connectivity Standards Alliance that runs natively over Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Thread. A Matter over Wi-Fi device joins the home's existing Wi-Fi network. Setup uses a numeric or QR code and Bluetooth LE to hand the device its network credentials.[1][14]

Multi-admin lets one device be added to several platforms at once, for example HomeKit and Home Assistant.[14]

Required hardware

A Matter controller, and nothing else on the radio side. On Google Home every Matter hub handles Matter over Wi-Fi devices, including Wi-Fi-only speakers like Nest Audio and Nest Mini. Matter is a local technology, so control from outside the home goes through an internet-connected controller.[2][14][15]
