What this site collects, what it stores in the browser, and who else sees a visit

Answer

Smart Home Canon has no accounts, no forms and no comments, so it holds no personal data about you. It does use Google Analytics 4 to count visits. Retailer links are plain search links that earn no commission.

What the site asks of you

Nothing. You cannot sign in, subscribe or post, and no page has a form that sends data to the site. You can read the pages or follow the RSS feed without identifying yourself.

Analytics

The pages load Google Analytics 4 (Google's gtag.js, from googletagmanager.com) once the page has loaded. Google receives the page you viewed, the page that sent you, your browser and device type, your approximate location and a random identifier stored in a cookie, which it uses to tell visits and returning visitors apart. Google signals and ad personalization are switched off, so the data is not used for advertising. The site uses the counts to see which pages are read. Google processes the data under its privacy policy.

The site shows no cookie banner. To avoid being counted, block the Google tag in your browser or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. The pages work the same without it, and everything on them renders without JavaScript.

Besides page views, the site counts a few interactions: clicks on retailer and Amazon links (which page, which retailer, which spot on the page and which device), clicks on a source link in the Sources list (only the source's website name), clicks on the “On this page” jump links (which section), and use of a table filter (which filter and how many rows remain). It never records what you type, and no names, emails or account details exist on the site to record.

What the site stores in your browser

The site itself sets no cookies and stores no data in your browser. Google Analytics sets its own cookies as described above.

Some pages link to the maker's product page and to an Amazon search. Amazon links carry a disclosure beside them. See how this site earns money. Amazon links carry no Associates tracking ID, so following one tells Amazon nothing about this site. The site never learns who you are or what you bought. Once you follow a link you are on another site, which sets its own cookies and has its own privacy policy. Your browser sends the other site only the address of this site's origin, not the full page address.

Hosting

As with any website, the servers and network providers that deliver the pages process technical request data such as your IP address, the time and the address requested, and typically keep it in ordinary logs for operation and security.
