Compatibility checker
Devices, platforms and the hardware between them
Select the platforms in a home and the devices owned or planned. The checker reports whether each device works, what extra hub or border router it needs, and why. Every reason links to its source.
How the checker works
- Select one or more platforms: Amazon Alexa, ESP32, ESPHome, Google Home, Home Assistant, HomeKit, Homey, Hubitat Elevation, Raspberry Pi, Samsung SmartThings, Tasmota. Each device is judged on the platform where it does best.
- Add devices from the index. Mark each as owned or planned. A hub or border router counts toward the others only if you own it.
- Read the verdict for each device, then the list of hardware to get and the devices that need each item.
Each device gets one of these verdicts:
- Works
- A sourced path connects it to your platform, and the hardware it needs is in your home or built into the platform.
- Works via Matter
- The same, through a Matter path.
- Needs a hub, bridge or border router
- The path exists, but a piece it depends on is missing or still on your to-buy list. The checker names it and suggests models from the index.
- Not supported
- A source says the platform does not support the device.
- Unknown
- The index has no sourced answer for that device and platform. Unknown is never turned into a no.
What it uses
The checker reads the same sourced facts as the rest of the index. That means the integration paths each device supports, what each path requires, which devices can act as a hub, Thread border router or Zigbee coordinator, and what each platform says it supports on its own. It adds nothing else. A Wi-Fi network is assumed in every home and is labelled as an assumption. See the methodology for how facts and dates are sourced.
The check needs JavaScript, because the answer depends on the devices you pick. Your picks are kept in the part of the address after the #. You can bookmark or share a result, and that part of the address is never sent to the server.
For a single device, start from the device matrix, or read how a path works on the platform pages.
