What was announced
- Apple announced Apple Home Collection on October 13. LG Electronics makes seven of the nine accessories. Schneider Electric's Schneider Home brand makes two.[1][2]
- The LG products are the Indoor Cam Plug-In ($199.95), Outdoor Cam Plug-In ($299.95), Floodlight Cam ($399.95), Video Doorbell Wired ($249.95), Smart Deadbolt Lock ($349.95), Smart Thermostat ($199.95) and Temperature Sensor ($39.95).[1]
- The Schneider Home products are the Smart Thermostat ($199.95) and the Room Sensor ($39.95).[1]
- Apple lists the prices, in U.S. dollars. LG's release gives none.[1][2]
- The cameras and the doorbell are for the U.S., Canada and the UK. The lock, thermostats and sensors are for the U.S. and Canada.[1]
- Apple also announced optional installation by ADT through Apple Retail, starting this fall in the U.S. It does not state the extra charge.[1]
Cameras and doorbell
All three cameras plug in and record up to 2.5K video. They detect people, pets, vehicles and motion, can block areas from view and recording, and have built-in local storage. They also have low-light color night vision.[1][2]
Apple's accessories page lists HomeKit Secure Video support for each camera and for the doorbell.[3]
The Indoor Cam has a 160-degree view and tilts down to a privacy position. It has physical controls for monitoring.[2]
The Outdoor Cam has an adjustable angle. Apple says it is self-installed.[1]
The Floodlight Cam has two adaptive floodlights that switch on when it detects activity.[2]
The wired Video Doorbell has a 2.5K front camera and a Full HD bottom camera. It recognizes people, vehicles, pets and packages and has two-way talk. It rings a chime through a HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini.[1][2]
Lock, thermostats and sensors
The Smart Deadbolt Lock opens with a home key from an iPhone or Apple Watch. Ultra-Wideband handles hands-free unlocking and NFC handles tap-to-unlock. It also has a PIN pad, a physical key, and sensors for open, closed and tamper states.[1][2]
Apple lists Thread, Matter and Aliro for the lock. It says the lock's core access functions work locally without internet.[1]
The LG Smart Thermostat uses Matter over Thread. It supports Apple's Adaptive Temperature, which changes heating and cooling for home, away and sleep.[1][2]
Optional temperature sensors report temperature and humidity from other rooms.[1]
In the contiguous U.S., Clean Energy Guidance can shift operation around grid carbon intensity and, with supported utilities, lower-cost periods.[1]
Apple calls both thermostats DIY-friendly, with on-device wire detection. A C-wire adapter is sold separately. LG's costs $24.95.[1]
Apple says both thermostats and both sensors are Matter compatible.[1]
Requirements
- LG says its products require a HomeKit home hub. Apple says some features do. Apple names HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K and HomeView.[1][2]
- LG says the products, LG ThinQ and the Home app need Wi-Fi. Apple says setup needs no separate app or account. LG does not state whether ThinQ is needed.[1][2]
- Camera history needs an iCloud+ plan. Ten days of event history are included. Apple Intelligence video summaries need an eligible plan and device.[1]
- Setup uses an iPhone with the latest software and NFC pairing.[1]
- LG says camera footage and Home app data are end-to-end encrypted and not accessible to LG or Apple.[2]
Thread and Matter, by device
Apple says every Home Collection device supports Thread.[1]
Apple states Matter for the lock, both thermostats and both sensors. It does not state Matter for the cameras or the doorbell.[1]
LG states Matter over Thread only for its thermostat.[2]
Aliro, the access standard, is listed for the lock only.[1]
Availability
Apple and LG both say sales start in December, with select accessories in early 2027, and neither says which.[1][2]
The U.S. and Canada get the full line. The UK gets the cameras and the doorbell.[1]
The accessories sell at apple.com/store, in the Apple Store app and in Apple Store locations.[1]
Not stated by LG or Schneider
- Which accessories ship in December and which wait until early 2027.[1][2]
- Whether the cameras and doorbell are Matter devices.[1][2]
- Whether any accessory is a Thread border router.[1][2]
- Whether LG will sell the products outside Apple's channels.[2]
- Whether the products work with platforms other than HomeKit. Both announcements describe setup and control through the Home app.[1][2]
