What changed
- Nabu Casa announced on October 2, 2026 that Home Assistant Cloud will be renamed Home Assistant Link.[1]
- The name becomes official in the 2026.12 release, due in December. Nabu Casa asked for feedback before then.[1]
- Nabu Casa gives two reasons: the old name clashed with Home Assistant's message against products that require the cloud, and some users thought the service ran Home Assistant in the cloud. Home Assistant itself is meant to run locally.[1]
What the service offers
- The service connects Home Assistant to Alexa and Google Home with simpler setup, and provides remote access. Nabu Casa moved remote access to a new bare-metal setup that connects users to the closest server.[1]
- It also provides online speech-to-text, encrypted online backup storage that only the user can decrypt, and access to human support.[1]
- The post lists a new account page, a speech-to-text Labs test and a new settings page with a setup wizard. New security features and account management tools are planned.[1]
