Hue and Matter
- Google's October 14, 2026 Google Home release notes say existing Philips Hue bridges upgrade automatically in the background to local Matter control through Google Home hubs. No re-pairing is needed.[1]
- The notes also say compatible Matter devices gain local control for faster, more reliable responses when a compatible hub is present.[1]
October 14 app changes
- Lights, plugs and switches from third-party brands have a redesigned control interface. On most controller pages, swiping up from the bottom opens favorites, history, help, feedback and full settings.[1]
- A banner appears when a smoke or CO alarm clears, with the event and time. Drag-and-drop reordering in Favorites is more stable.[1]
- Gemini for Home early access gets a short goodbye after polite closings, weather in the home-wide temperature unit and faster text scrolling on smart displays. A fix stops "stop" from ending a conversation instead of halting media, timers or alarms.[1]
- Camera fixes cover stuck snapshot tiles on iOS and playback errors on Android.[1]
September 30 changes
- Dimming a light to 0 percent now turns it off instead of leaving it at minimum brightness. Offline Matter switches show as greyed out. Awnings and curtains are identified correctly instead of defaulting to blinds.[1]
- Setup reliability improved for Nest devices on iOS and Android, and network credentials can be cached securely for the next device.[1]
- Gemini for Home early access filters background conversation better, has lower latency for common smart home, media, alarm and timer commands, and recognizes households that speak three languages.[1]
- Doorbell camera settings have a Doorbell theme option to preview chimes and seasonal themes by audio.[1]
