Gen4 relays (S4SW code) are the only Shelly relays that ship with Matter, and they add Zigbee as an alternate profile.
These relays join HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home through Matter or a Zigbee hub. A Gen4 relay runs Matter or Zigbee, not both. Gen3 relays (S3SW) reach Matter over Wi-Fi after a firmware update and a setting in the web interface. Pro relays (SPSW) are DIN-rail units with Ethernet, and Plus relays (SNSW) are the Gen2 in-wall modules. Every generation can run locally over MQTT, HTTP and webhooks.
The first-generation Wi-Fi relays (1PM, 1L and 2.5), of which Shelly lists the 1L and 2.5 as discontinued and sells the 1PM only through its Outlet collection.
The first characters name the generation: SH is Gen1, SN is Plus, SP is Pro, S3 is Gen3 and S4 is Gen4. Shelly publishes no key, but the pattern holds for every code listed here.[5][23][38][81][85]
001, 002, 003, 004
On Plus, Pro, Gen3 and Gen4 relay codes, these digits match the channel count. 001 is one channel, 002 is two, 003 is three (Pro 3) and 004 is four (Pro 4PM).[47][50][81][82]
X or P, and PM in the name
P marks a relay with power measurement and X marks one without. It sits where the PM does in the name (1PM, 2PM, Pro 4PM).[1][5][35][38]
16 or 8 near the end
The number matches the switching rating: 16 on the full-size relays (16 A) and 8 on the Mini relays (8 A).[5][11][23][27]
L in the name, 0A in the code
The L relays (1L, 2L) work without a neutral wire and ship with a Shelly Bypass. Their codes begin 0A and end EUL.[17][19][31][33]
Mini
A smaller relay body for the back box of a switch or socket, rated 8 A instead of 16 A.[11][14]
Pro v.0, v.1, V2 and the leading digit
Shelly gave the Pro relays it revised new codes. The Pro 1PM is SPSW-001PE16EU in v.0 and SPSW-201PE16EU in v.1. The Pro 4PM is SPSW-004PE16EU in V1 and SPSW-104PE16EU in V2.[38][50][91]
x2, x4 and pack names
Multi-pack listings of the same relay, such as 1PM Gen3 x2 or 1PM Gen4 4-pack. They are not different models.[4]

Some products look alike but are not. A Gen3 and a Gen4 relay can share a name apart from the generation, as with the 1PM Gen3 and 1PM Gen4. Shelly revised the Pro 1, 1PM, 2 and 2PM to a v.1 with new codes. The Pro 4PM comes in V1 and V2 versions that differ in their terminals. Shelly calls the earliest Pro 1PM (SPSW-001PE16EU, v.0) obsolete and out of sale.
Shelly also sells the PM Mini (Plus and Gen3) and the EM Mini Gen4. These are power meters with no relay and are not part of this line.
