Hue's TV sync products are the Play HDMI Sync Box 8K, the Play HDMI Sync Box 4K and Play Screen Sync. The HDMI sync boxes sit between the sources and the TV, while Screen Sync is a camera on top of the TV with no HDMI.
The 8K box has four HDMI 2.1 ports for 8K 60 Hz and 4K 120 Hz. The 4K box has one HDMI connection at 4K 60 Hz.
Screen Sync reads the screen itself, so it works with the TV's own apps and broadcast TV.

The 8K sync box has four HDMI ports and passes 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz. The 4K sync box has one HDMI connection and 4K at 60 Hz. Screen Sync has no HDMI. A fisheye camera on the TV reads the screen, so it also works with native smart-TV apps and broadcast TV.[1–4]
Hue says the HDMI sync box does not support Matter.[5]
From 3 September 2026, one Play gradient strip can sync with the 4K sync box or Screen Sync over Bluetooth without a Bridge. A Bridge or Bridge Pro raises the limit to 10 lights.[4]
