# Current models and older generations of smart home gear

*Model codes, label cues and what changed between generations for Hue, Reolink, Tapo, Nest and Wyze*

> Smart home makers reuse product names across generations, so the name on a listing does not date a product. A model code, a figure printed on the box, a Matter logo or the maker's own pointer to a newer model separates a current product from an older one. Hue sells bulbs with the same name and different specifications. Reolink and Wyze point from older models to newer ones. TP-Link marks its Matter plugs with an M suffix.[^1][^2][^3][^4]

## Reading a generation

A generation is identified by a code or a specification, not by the product name. Hue's White and color ambiance A19 from 2025 prints 810 lm and 1000-20000 K. The older Bluetooth-era bulb of the same name prints 806 lm and 2000-6500 K.[^5][^6][^7]

## Philips Hue lightstrips and bulbs

The Lightstrip Plus V4 was announced on 2020-06-16 and adds Bluetooth. Hue states that the lightstrip extension is only compatible with the Lightstrip Plus V4.[^8][^9]

The 2020 Play Gradient TV strips were released on 2020-10-06. Hue lists them as not cuttable and not extendable. The 2026 Play Gradient strips, announced on 2026-09-03, are cuttable and use OmniGlow. Hue lists Matter for them through a Hue Bridge or third-party Thread border routers. Hue's announcement calls them a new generation of Play gradient strip lights.[^10][^11][^12][^13]

The 2025 White and color ambiance A19 has 12NC 929003853701. Hue's announcement of the 2025 bulbs adds native Matter over Thread to their Zigbee and Bluetooth. CSA certifies Philips Hue Light family 9290038535 as Matter 1.3 over Thread and Bluetooth. Hue identifies Matter-enabled bulbs by the Matter logo on the packaging.[^5][^7][^14][^15]

The Bluetooth-era White and color ambiance starter kit has 12NC 929002226615 and lists Bluetooth and Zigbee. Hue states that products connected via Bluetooth cannot be used with Matter. Through a Hue Bridge or Bridge Pro, Hue products work with Matter.[^6][^16]

## Reolink cameras and doorbells

Reolink publishes a discontinuation notice that names a replacement and an end-of-life date for each retired model. It maps the RLC-410 to the RLC-510A, with end of life on 2021-12-31, and the Argus 2 to the Argus 3 Pro, with end of life on 2022-09-29.[^2]

The Duo 2 PoE was released on 2022-08-18 and the Duo 3 PoE on 2024-02-21. Reolink calls the Duo 3 PoE the successor to the Duo 2 PoE. The Duo 2 PoE has an 8MP sensor (4608 x 1728) and the Duo 3 PoE a 16MP sensor (7680 x 2160). Reolink lists RTSP and ONVIF for the Duo 2 PoE.[^17][^18][^19][^20][^21][^22]

Reolink calls the Argus 4 Pro, released on 2024-06-10, the newest addition to the Argus series. The Argus 3 Pro has a 5MP lens and a 6000mAh battery. The Argus 4 Pro has an 8MP dual lens with a 180 degree view and a 5000mAh battery. Reolink lists RTSP and ONVIF for the Argus series only through a Reolink Home Hub.[^23][^24][^25][^22]

The Battery Video Doorbell 1st Gen was released on 2024-09-18 and the 2nd Gen on 2026-07-20. Reolink calls the 2nd Gen a new generation. The 1st Gen takes a microSD card up to 256GB and the 2nd Gen up to 512GB.[^26][^27][^28][^29]

## TP-Link Tapo plugs

An M suffix marks a Tapo plug with Matter. The P110 and P110M are both energy-monitoring mini plugs. The P110M has a Matter certification dated 2023-03-16 and works with HomeKit through Matter. TP-Link does not list Matter or HomeKit for the P110.[^30][^31][^32]

The P125 and P125M follow the same pattern. TP-Link announced HomeKit support for the P125 on 2022-01-04 as native HomeKit without Matter. The P125M is Matter-certified, dated 2022-11-30, and TP-Link launched it on 2023-01-30 as its first Matter-certified plug.[^33][^34][^35][^4]

The P110 is rated 15 A in the United States and 16 A, 3680 W in global markets.[^32][^36]

## Google Nest thermostats, cameras and doorbells

The Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) was introduced in September 2015 and is designed to work without a C wire. The 4th gen was released on 2024-08-20 with a 12-terminal base and is Matter-certified.[^37][^38][^39]

The 1st and 2nd generation Nest Learning Thermostats were unpaired from the Nest and Google Home apps starting 2025-10-25. Their pre-set schedules keep running.[^40]

The Nest Cam Indoor (wired) shares its name across generations. The 2nd gen, released on 2021-10-05, records 1080p with a 135 degree view and a USB-A cable. The 3rd gen, released on 2025-10-01, records 2K with a 152 degree view and a USB-C cable.[^41][^42][^43][^44]

The wired Nest Doorbell follows the same pattern. The 2nd gen, announced on 2022-10-04, records 960 x 1280 video with a 145 degree view and an IP54 rating. The 3rd gen, released on 2025-10-01, records 2048 x 2048 video with a 166 degree view and an IP65 rating.[^45][^42][^43][^46]

## Wyze cameras

Wyze marks the Cam v2 and Cam v3 as discontinued and points to the Cam v4 as the newer model. The v3 records 1080p with an IP65 rating. The v4 records 2.5K QHD (2560 x 1440), keeps the IP65 rating and takes a microSD card up to 256GB.[^47][^3][^48]

Wyze points from the discontinued Cam Floodlight v1 to the Floodlight v2, and from the discontinued Cam Outdoor v2 to the Battery Cam Pro.[^49][^50]
